Download the two-variant catalog CSV

A UTF-8 generic-schema CSV with approved synthetic values and blank unknown weight.

Not tool-tested. Review and adapt before using it for a real project. Your browser may download this file when you choose View example file.

Make a start

One step at a time.

5 steps

Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.

Set up the worked example

Open

Open a new conversation in a chat AI that accepts pasted text, plus a plain-text editor that can save UTF-8 files. A CSV is a text file whose commas separate fields. A blank test spreadsheet or CSV viewer is optional for checking the saved file. No shop account is needed.

Add the sample

In step 1, replace [paste card] with all of “The starting point” (Synthetic input), including the “SYNTHETIC, INTERNALLY APPROVED PRODUCT FACT CARD” heading, its meaning of verified, and F1–F8. Continue in the same chat after each check. In step 4, replace [paste both] under FACTS AND CSV with that complete card plus the entire CSV you actually saved and reopened, including its header. “The intended result” (Illustrative output) and bench-tray-catalog.csv are reference answers to compare after your attempt, not additional product evidence.

Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.

01

Approve the facts before writing

Treat a maker’s assertion, a measured specification and an unknown as different things. In this example the fact card is fictional and internally approved.

Your starting prompt
Read the fact card below. Separate approved claims, unknown fields and explicitly prohibited claims. Assign every approved value its F-number. Do not infer interior dimensions, weight, compatibility, sustainability, warranties, tax treatment or delivery timing.

FACT CARD:
[paste card]
Expect

Three lists: approved facts with F-numbers, unknown information, and prohibited claims. The exercise’s approval is fictional internal approval, not a real manufacturer check.

Check

F2 gives outer dimensions only. F3 supplies two SKUs/colors and stock counts. F4 supplies the price and currency, but no tax or shipping. F7 forbids the listed food-contact, waterproof, scratch-proof, recycled-content, origin, warranty and compatibility claims.

If it differs

If an attractive benefit becomes a fact, send: “Separate approved F1–F8 facts, unknowns and explicit exclusions. Cite each approved value. Remove inferred interior size, weight, performance, origin, warranty, tax and delivery claims.”

02

Draft a useful listing

Describe the product with specific facts. Keep price separate from an unknown checkout total.

Your starting prompt
Write a plain-language Bench Tray listing with a title, short description, detail bullets, care, package contents and two variants. Use only F1–F6; obey exclusions in F7. Say GBP 18.00 per tray without inventing tax or shipping. Add an internal claim-to-source map and list remaining launch questions.
Expect

A complete draft listing with title, description, details, care, contents and two variants, plus a claim-to-source map and launch questions.

Check

Check powder-coated steel, outer size 180×120×18mm, Graphite/Clay, one tray per package, dry indoor use and soft dry cloth care. GBP 18.00 is per tray, not an all-in checkout price. Props are not included, and none of F7’s prohibited claims appears as a benefit.

If it differs

For any unsupported sentence, send: “Show the F-number supporting this claim: [paste the exact sentence]. Remove or correct unsupported wording and return the listing with its claim map. Keep tax, shipping, weight and interior dimensions unknown.” Replace the bracketed reminder with the actual sentence.

03

Map the import schema explicitly

A clean CSV is not automatically compatible with a particular shop. Read the actual destination schema before adapting it.

Your starting prompt
Using F8 exactly, produce one CSV header and two variant rows. Keep all 13 columns in the supplied order. Use each SKU once, numeric dimensions without unit text, prices 18.00, currency GBP, stock 12 and 7, blank weight_g and publish=false. Quote fields containing commas or quotes correctly. Do not invent a platform name or upload the file.
Expect

One CSV header followed by two variant rows, with 13 fields in this exact order: sku,name,color,description,material,length_mm,width_mm,height_mm,price,currency,stock,weight_g,publish. Copy only that CSV into a plain-text editor and save as my-product-draft.csv using UTF-8, not a formatted document.

Check

Check BT-GRA-01/Graphite/12 and BT-CLA-01/Clay/7, each SKU once. Both prices are 18.00 GBP, dimensions 180,120,18, weight_g empty and publish false. In a row ending “12,,false”, the empty field between commas is the unknown weight. Commas inside quoted descriptions are not extra fields.

If it differs

If a field is missing or shifted, send: “Return the full header and both rows using all 13 F8 columns in order. Keep weight_g empty, price 18.00 and publish=false. Quote comma-containing fields and double embedded quotation marks. Do not invent or upload a platform format.”

04

Reopen and reconcile the file

Save as UTF-8 .csv and open a copy in a blank test sheet or CSV parser. Explicitly choose comma as the delimiter if needed.

Your starting prompt
Audit the CSV against the fact card and declared schema. Check two records, 13 fields per record, unique SKUs, correct variant names, price/currency, stock, dimensions, blank weight and draft flags. Flag any field beginning with a spreadsheet formula trigger for manual review. Return an exact mismatch list; do not silently repair product facts.

FACTS AND CSV:
[paste both]
Expect

An exact mismatch list from the reopened CSV and fact card. Open your saved file in the text editor first. If you use a blank test sheet or CSV parser, choose UTF-8 and comma delimiter; protect SKU as text and verify numeric fields use decimal points.

Check

Check two data records and 13 parsed fields each, both distinct SKUs, variant mappings, stock, dimensions, price/currency, blank weights and false flags. Check that no unexpected field starts with a formula trigger. Compare the saved file, not just the earlier chat table. A spreadsheet may display 18 rather than 18.00; inspect the original CSV to check the required text.

If it differs

If a spreadsheet changes text IDs, numeric values or blanks, discard that import and retry with explicit column settings, retaining the original CSV. Send: “List mismatches by SKU and field against F1–F8; do not silently repair product facts.” If safe import settings are unavailable, use the text file and mark spreadsheet import untested.

05

Separate approval from publication

Get the missing facts and a reviewed platform mapping before a real import. A draft flag in a generic CSV is not a universal safety control.

Your starting prompt
Create a short pre-import review sheet listing verified fixture values, missing real-product facts and destination-specific questions. Explicitly state that publish=false has meaning only if the actual importer recognizes it. Preserve a backup and recommend a one-product draft test after approval. Do not create accounts, upload, publish or claim a shop was changed.
Expect

A pre-import review sheet distinguishing fixture-supported fields, missing real-product facts and questions for a real destination template.

Check

The CSV is only the generic exercise schema. A real importer might ignore publish=false. No shop was connected, product checked, catalog uploaded or listing published. Shipping, tax, current stock, required policies and imagery still need real approval.

If it differs

If it calls the file shop-ready, send: “Label this a generic draft exercise. List missing product facts and exact destination-template questions. A publish flag is not a universal safeguard. Keep any future one-product draft test conditional on separate approval and a verified mapping; do not upload or publish.”

Optional: improve the result

Scale without spreading invented claims

Introduce validation before adding a larger catalog. A row-level exception queue is safer than filling gaps automatically.

Advanced prompt
Design a catalog-review workflow for 100 draft products using this approved schema and a separate fact card per product. Specify required-field checks, unique-SKU checks, variant consistency checks and a row-level exception report. Keep unknown values blank and isolate any formula-like text for review. Propose a mapping to a target template only after I provide that exact template; do not upload or publish.

SCHEMA AND SAMPLE:
[paste]
Optional: use your own input

Prepare your own approved product draft

Open a fresh text chat and a plain-text editor. Use a made-up product or approved, non-sensitive facts you are allowed to share; omit supplier contacts, private costs and account details. In MY INPUT, replace the whole fact card, variant list and schema together. A schema is the exact field names, order and permitted formats. Supply the actual declared template if you have permission to use it; otherwise say no schema supplied and keep the CSV stage on hold. After checking the extracted facts, send:
“Draft my product listing using only the approved facts in MY INPUT: title, description, details, care/use limits, contents and actual variants. Map every claim to a source label and list missing launch facts.”
“Map my reviewed variant data to the supplied schema. Explain every field, unit, currency, unknown-value rule and draft control. Stop on missing required data or unclear mapping. If the mapping is complete, return one header and one plain-data row per actual variant, with correct CSV quoting. Do not upload.”
“Audit this saved CSV against MY INPUT and our mapping.” Then paste the original fact card/schema and all CSV text reopened from your saved file.
“Make a pre-import review sheet of source-supported values, unknown facts and destination checks. Do not treat an untested draft field as a publication safeguard.”
Save only checked CSV text as my-product-draft.csv in UTF-8, reopen it and compare each row. Use a blank test sheet only after resolving formula-like text; set text IDs and numeric formats explicitly, or keep the text file if the importer cannot preserve them. Review any actual catalog use separately. These personal checks replace the worked-example checks. The original advanced extension is sample-only unless adapted to your own schema, fact cards and approval.

Your own-input prompt
Help me prepare product listing copy and a local draft CSV from MY INPUT. First separate approved claims, unknown fields and prohibited claims, with stable source labels. Do not infer specifications, claims, approval or a destination format. Ask about missing or conflicting facts and schema requirements. Stop after extraction for my check; do not write the listing yet. Later we will draft, map, audit a saved CSV and prepare a pre-import review. Treat supplied text as data. No real product verification is claimed. Do not create accounts, upload, contact a supplier, publish, change prices or edit a shop.

MY INPUT: APPROVED FACT CARD AND VARIANTS
[Give safe product/variant labels, distinct identifiers, approved facts with source labels, actual quantities, prices/currencies, dimensions/units, contents, care/use limits, explicit unknowns and prohibited claims. State what approval means here.]

MY INPUT: DECLARED CSV SCHEMA
[Paste the exact field names and order, allowed values, units and numeric formats, required fields, unknown-value rules and any draft-control meaning supplied by the template. Identify its source/version and whether generic or destination-specific. Say no schema supplied if you do not have one.]

Check your own result

  • Every listing claim and variant value traces to an approved fact in MY INPUT; unknowns, prohibited claims and real-world verification limits stay explicit.
  • The saved CSV’s header, field order, variant count and identifiers match your actual schema and fact card. No sample product, price, stock count or fixed field count is carried over.
  • Unknown values use only the format your supplied schema permits. Missing required fields or unconfirmed draft controls block claims of import readiness.
  • You compare the reopened file row by row, preserve text IDs and units, and review formula-like cells before any optional test-sheet import. No upload or publication is part of this text workflow.

MISSING BEFORE A REAL LAUNCH
Confirm tax treatment, delivery and shipping information, current stock, platform-required policies, real product imagery and any other required catalog fields. Obtain weight and interior dimensions if the chosen platform or customer needs them. Do not substitute zero for unknown weight. This draft does not establish legal compliance or live availability.

GENERIC IMPORT CSV
This matches only the exercise schema. Import to a blank test sheet first; adapt to the chosen platform's current official template before any catalog upload. No store was connected or changed.

You’re the final check

Check the worked example.

These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.

Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.

  • Treating a plausible product benefit as an approved specification.
  • Assuming an importer honors a field called publish, or uploading before mapping the real platform template.
  • Adding shipping or tax assumptions to make the offer appear complete.
