Make a start

One step at a time.

3 steps

Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.

Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.

01

Open a chat and paste the example

Open https://chatgpt.com and choose New chat. Copy every line under Input in this guide into the message box. Then add the prompt below (the instructions telling the assistant what to do) and send both together. Expect a written response shaped like the example under Output. The wording may differ. If the assistant asks for information already in the input, point to that line; if a necessary fact is missing, keep it unknown rather than guessing.

Your starting prompt
Turn the supplied drawing intention into a seven-evening personal experiment. Include the existing cue, exact small action, fallback, no-debt missed-day rule and a blank observation log. Keep success about trying and noticing, not an unproven health or behavior-change guarantee.
02

Check the specific result

Check there are seven blank evening entries. Preserve 3 minutes for the main action, 20 seconds for the fallback and the rule against making up missed sessions. No actual outcome should be pre-filled. Compare it with the Input yourself. If the response fails a check, paste the correction prompt below into the same chat. Recheck the corrected version before saving it.

Your starting prompt
Check your plan against the exact cue, durations and missed-day rule. Remove streak penalties, invented results or claims that the habit is guaranteed. Keep the observation log blank.
03

Try it with your own example

Open a new chat. Copy the prompt below, then replace [PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE] with your own non-sensitive facts and rules. Include the kinds of details listed under Requirements. Send the whole message. Expect the same kind of result as this guide, using your values. Compare every name, number and rule with your input. If something differs, point to the exact mismatch and ask for a corrected complete answer. Save only a version you have checked.

Your starting prompt
Turn my low-stakes intention below into a personal experiment for the number of days I request. Preserve my existing cue, small action, fallback and missed-day rule. Provide a blank observation log. Define success as trying and noticing, without health or behavior-change guarantees.

Use only the new input below. If a fact needed to finish is missing, ask me for it before choosing an answer.

Optional: improve the result

Change one source of friction

After the trial, use actual notes to choose one adjustment and keep the rest stable for another comparison. This extension uses the worked example. Return to that example chat, or paste its input and your checked example answer into a new chat first. Do not apply its sample values unchanged to your own input.

Advanced prompt
New made-up observation: the sketchbook was easy to find, but choosing an object delayed three sessions. Suggest one change that reduces the choice without increasing the 3-minute action. Keep the cue, fallback and no-debt rule unchanged.
Show, then try

This input is synthetic. The output is a written illustration of the intended result, not a verified AI-tool run.

The starting point

Synthetic input
Made-up example for practice.

Made-up habit experiment for a fictional adult. Goal: draw for enjoyment more often. Existing cue: I put my evening mug in the sink. Desired small action: draw one ordinary object in my pocket sketchbook for 3 minutes. Materials: sketchbook and pencil on the side table. Minimum fallback: make one continuous pencil line for 20 seconds if I do not want a full session. Trial: Monday through Sunday, seven evenings. A missed day is just a recorded observation; no catch-up debt or streak scoring. Do not claim this improves health or guarantees a lasting habit.

Copies text only. For image or file tasks, use the source files named in the steps too.

The intended result

Illustrative output
Written example for practice; not a recorded AI response.

Seven-evening trial
Cue: after putting the evening mug in the sink, pick up the sketchbook and pencil from the side table.
Small action: draw one ordinary object for 3 minutes.
Fallback: if a full session feels unappealing, make one continuous line for 20 seconds.
Missed evening: record Missed and continue the next evening; do not double the next session.
Observation log
Monday: Full / Fallback / Missed; brief note: ____
Tuesday: Full / Fallback / Missed; brief note: ____
Wednesday: Full / Fallback / Missed; brief note: ____
Thursday: Full / Fallback / Missed; brief note: ____
Friday: Full / Fallback / Missed; brief note: ____
Saturday: Full / Fallback / Missed; brief note: ____
Sunday: Full / Fallback / Missed; brief note: ____
End-of-trial question: did the cue and materials make starting easier, and what would I change? No result is assumed.

You’re the final check

Check the worked example.

These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.

Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.

  • An elaborate tracking system can become more work than the activity. Keep the observation short.
  • A sample habit plan is not evidence that the cue will work for you. Adjust after observing it.
