Schedule short reviews without cramming everything together
Spread short attempts to remember over several days, with a clear rule for a missed review.

What you’re working towards
Use explicit review offsets and study windows to make a finite retrieval schedule with a missed-session rule. The worked result is a written example for practice; the AI steps have not been tested.

Make a start
One step at a time.
3 steps
Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.
Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.
01
Open a chat and paste the example
Open https://chatgpt.com and choose New chat. Copy every line under Input in this guide into the message box. Then add the prompt below (the instructions telling the assistant what to do) and send both together. Expect a written response shaped like the example under Output. The wording may differ. If the assistant asks for information already in the input, point to that line; if a necessary fact is missing, keep it unknown rather than guessing.
Your starting prompt
Build the complete finite review schedule from the supplied learning dates, +1/+3/+7 offsets and windows. Show each exact date and five-minute slot, total review minutes and the missed-session rule. Explain retrieval in plain words and propose a brief recall/check pattern. Do not create events or claim the schedule guarantees retention.
If no later listed window has capacity, mark the review Unschedulable with the supplied windows and ask for a new available window; do not invent a date or shift later fixed reviews.
02
Check the specific result
Count three reviews per topic and six total. Calculate dates from the first-learning dates, not from the preceding review. Every slot must stay inside a listed 18:30–18:40 window, with total review time 30 minutes. Compare it with the Input yourself. If the response fails a check, paste the correction prompt below into the same chat. Recheck the corrected version before saving it.
Your starting prompt
Recalculate all +1, +3 and +7 dates from each original learning date. Check six five-minute reviews, listed windows and 30 total minutes. Restore the rule that moving a missed review does not shift later reviews.
If no later listed window has capacity, mark the review Unschedulable with the supplied windows and ask for a new available window; do not invent a date or shift later fixed reviews.
03
Try it with your own example
Open a new chat. Copy the prompt below, then replace [PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE] with your own non-sensitive facts and rules. Include the kinds of details listed under Requirements. Send the whole message. Expect the same kind of result as this guide, using your values. Compare every name, number and rule with your input. If something differs, point to the exact mismatch and ask for a corrected complete answer. Save only a version you have checked.
Your starting prompt
Make a finite review schedule from my learning dates, review-day offsets and available windows below. Give each exact date, a slot of the requested length, total review minutes and my missed-session rule. Flag any window that cannot fit. Explain retrieval as trying to remember before checking. Do not create calendar events or promise retention.
Use only the new input below. If a fact needed to finish is missing, ask me for it before choosing an answer.
MY INPUT
[PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE]
If no later listed window has capacity, mark the review Unschedulable with the supplied windows and ask for a new available window; do not invent a date or shift later fixed reviews.
Optional: improve the result
Recover a missed session without a pile-up
Use the stated recovery rule and exact capacity rather than shifting the whole schedule. This extension uses the worked example. Return to that example chat, or paste its input and your checked example answer into a new chat first. Do not apply its sample values unchanged to your own input.
Advanced prompt
Topic A’s 22 October review was missed. Move only that review to the next listed window with capacity. Show both reviews on the affected date with non-overlapping five-minute slots, and leave the +7 reviews unchanged.
Show, then try

01 / The starting point
Synthetic input
Made-up example for practice.
Made-up study schedule for an adult. Retrieval practice means trying to remember without looking at the source, then checking it. Topic A, camera-control vocabulary, first learned 19 October 2026. Topic B, map symbols, first learned 20 October 2026. For each topic, review 1, 3 and 7 calendar days after its first-learning date. Each review takes 5 minutes. Available review windows are 18:30–18:40 on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26 and 27 October. Initial learning sessions are already complete and are outside these windows. If a review is missed, move that review to the next listed window with capacity, but keep later planned review dates fixed. Do not create calendar events or promise a learning outcome.
If no later listed window has capacity, mark the review Unschedulable with the supplied windows and ask for a new available window; do not invent a date or shift later fixed reviews.
Copies text only. For image or file tasks, use the source files named in the steps too.
Written example for practice; not a recorded AI response.
Review plan
20 October, 18:30–18:35: Topic A, day +1.
21 October, 18:30–18:35: Topic B, day +1.
22 October, 18:30–18:35: Topic A, day +3.
23 October, 18:30–18:35: Topic B, day +3.
26 October, 18:30–18:35: Topic A, day +7.
27 October, 18:30–18:35: Topic B, day +7.
24 October remains unused and can be a listed recovery window if needed.
Five-minute review pattern: try recalling for 3 minutes without the source, then spend 2 minutes checking and noting one gap. These substeps are a suggested use of the supplied review time.
Six reviews × 5 minutes = 30 minutes. No day exceeds its 10-minute window. A missed review moves to the next listed window with room; later review dates stay fixed. No events have been created.
If no later listed window has capacity, mark the review Unschedulable with the supplied windows and ask for a new available window; do not invent a date or shift later fixed reviews.
These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.
Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.
Offsets of 1, 3 and 7 days from first learning are not gaps of 1, then 3, then 7 days between reviews.
This is a planning example; the schedule does not guarantee learning or create reminders.
