Make a start
One step at a time.
3 steps
Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.
Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.
01
Open a text assistant and try the example
For a concrete starter route, open https://chatgpt.com and choose New chat. Sign in if that service requires it for your access. You can also use another text assistant you already have. Copy the entire prompt below (the instructions to paste), including the sample input, into its message box and send it. No upload or image generation is needed. Expect twelve labeled cards, complete rules and a sample turn. The wording may differ from the example; the constraints should not. If it only explains the task, ask it to produce the finished result using the supplied input.
Your starting prompt
Create twelve charades cards: four easy, four medium and four hard. Each card must describe a visible action, not an abstract idea or proper name. Include rules for two teams, one sample turn and a rule for ties. No printing file is needed; return plain text.
Use this complete made-up practice input:
Players: Two teams of adults playing for fun.
Card constraints: Easy uses one familiar action; medium combines an action with an object or complication; hard combines two actions in a small situation. Avoid bodily harm, imitation of disability, sexual content, named public figures and humiliating acts.
House rules: Six rounds, one turn per team per round; forty-five seconds per turn; no talking, spelling or writing; one point for an exact meaning match, with synonyms accepted; no negative points; before the timer starts, a player may ask for one different unplayed card without explanation. Set the uncomfortable card aside until a different card is drawn, then return it to the deck. If no different card remains, the player may pass without explanation, score zero and remove that last card. Played cards leave the deck. Ties remain shared wins.
Deck use: Shuffle all twelve cards, draw without replacement. Difficulty labels help review variety; they do not change points.
Return the finished result. Keep it fictional and do not add claims about real people, products or events.
02
Check, correct and save
Read the response beside the original input. Count twelve cards with four in each difficulty group. Check every card can be conveyed through visible actions without a name or abstract word. Verify twelve total team turns, the 45-second limit, replacement rule and shared-win tie rule. If a check fails, paste the correction prompt below in the same conversation. Check the revised result yourself, then copy the version you want into your own notes or document. On the final card, confirm that a no-explanation pass for zero points is allowed.
Your starting prompt
Check your previous result against this original input:
Check these requirements one by one:
- Count twelve cards with four in each difficulty group.
- Check every card can be conveyed through visible actions without a name or abstract word.
- Verify twelve total team turns, the 45-second limit, replacement rule and shared-win tie rule.
Quote each problem, explain the smallest repair, and return a complete corrected version. If there is no problem, say which checks you applied. Do not claim that your own review proves quality or audience response.
Also check the final-card case: no different card remains, so a no-explanation pass must score zero and remove that card.

Optional: use your own material
Open a new chat. Copy the prompt below and replace [PASTE YOUR INPUT HERE] with adult group preferences, action themes and comfort exclusions. Use material you own or may use and leave out private details. The output limits written in this prompt stay in force; change a limit here too if you want a different one. Send the whole message. Expect the same kind of written result with your new material. Check it against this new input and these limits, not the sample’s names or numbers. If it differs, describe the exact mismatch and ask for a complete correction before saving.
Your starting prompt
Make twelve charades cards, four easy, four medium and four hard, using my themes and exclusions below. Use visible actions, not abstract ideas or proper names. Rules: two teams, six turns each, 45 seconds per turn, no speech/spelling/writing, one point for a matching meaning, no negative points, ties shared. Before the timer, allow one different unplayed card without explanation; keep the first card aside while drawing its replacement, then return the first card to the unplayed deck. Shuffle and draw without replacement; remove each played card. If no different card remains, allow a no-explanation pass for zero points and remove that card. Include a sample turn. Return text only.
If an essential detail is missing or two requirements conflict, ask me before filling the gap.

Optional: improve the result
Tune difficulty after a real play session
Use actual results rather than assuming the initial labels are accurate. Keep the first version so you can compare the change. This extension uses the worked example. Return to that example chat, or paste its input and your checked example answer into a new chat first. Do not apply its sample values unchanged to your own input.
Advanced prompt
After I give you which cards were solved, skipped and timed out, suggest difficulty relabeling and replacement cards. Separate observed results from your guesses. Keep twelve cards and the same content boundaries.
Use the original input and result in this conversation. If either is missing, ask me to paste it before continuing.

01 / The starting point
Synthetic input
Made-up example for practice. All people, places and events are invented.
Copies text only. For image or file tasks, use the source files named in the steps too.
Worked example written for this guide; it is not a recording of an AI run.
Rules:
Shuffle the twelve cards. Play six rounds, with one turn for each team per round. On your team's turn, draw a card and mime for up to 45 seconds without speech, spelling or writing. Teammates may guess aloud. Award one point for the intended action, including reasonable synonyms; otherwise award zero. Remove a played card. Before the timer starts, the performer may ask for one different unplayed card without explanation. Set the uncomfortable card aside while drawing a different one, then return it to the deck. If no different card remains, allow a no-explanation pass for zero points and remove that last card. Both teams have six turns; highest total wins, and a tied total is a shared win.
Easy cards:
E1. Brushing your hair.
E2. Opening an umbrella.
E3. Stirring a bowl.
E4. Sweeping a floor.
Medium cards:
M1. Wrapping an awkwardly shaped present.
M2. Reading a map in a strong wind.
M3. Carrying an overfilled laundry basket.
M4. Trying to fold a fitted sheet.
Hard cards:
H1. Painting a wall, then noticing a missed patch behind you.
H2. Building a tall block tower, then carefully moving it.
H3. Packing a suitcase, then rearranging it to close the lid.
H4. Watering a plant, then moving the pot to catch a drip.
Sample turn:
Team A draws M2. The performer opens an imaginary map and holds down flapping corners. A teammate says, “Trying to read a map when it's windy.” That matches the meaning, so Team A scores one point and M2 leaves the deck.
These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.
Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.
!
A few things to watch for.
“Hard” should mean a richer action, not a more embarrassing performance. Replace any card a player dislikes.
A returned card may reappear later. If the group wants to remove it entirely, write a comfortable replacement first so the deck still contains twelve cards.
Do not promise a different card when the deck has no other card. The explicit final-card pass keeps the comfort rule usable.
