What you’re working towards

A unit-price comparison and whole-pack purchase options, with extra sheets and minimum purchase conditions visible. This is an authored practice example; no consumer AI run has been recorded.

Make a start

One step at a time.

2 steps

Start with the synthetic worked example or other non-sensitive inputs. Run one prompt at a time in your chosen AI tool. Replace any bracketed placeholders with the requested material, check each reply, and supply the source or earlier outputs that step needs. Paste them again if the tool lacks that context.

Start with the synthetic example, then adapt each prompt to your task.

01

Try the complete example

Open a new chat in a text AI assistant you already have permission to use. Paste all of Input from this guide, then the prompt below, in one message. Do not paste Output: that is the illustrative answer for comparison. Expect a written result that will compare price per sheet with the cost of enough whole packs. Different wording is fine; the source facts and rules must agree. Check it yourself: A needs 3 packs, costs GBP 7.20 and leaves 30 sheets; 2 packs are insufficient. C needs 2 indivisible bundles, not 2 individual pads; its total is GBP 7.80. B supplies 100 sheets for GBP 5.50, leaving 10 sheets and GBP 0.50. If a check fails, paste: “This part is wrong: [quote it]. My source says: [quote the exact line]. Return the complete corrected result and explain the change.” Recheck before saving; if the source itself is incomplete, keep that part unresolved.

Your starting prompt
For each offer, calculate price per sheet, smallest whole sale-unit count meeting the requirement, sheets received, total paid and excess. State quantity and budget fit separately, then name any option meeting both. Show the bundle arithmetic; do not mix offers.

Use only the complete synthetic input pasted above. Return the finished written result. Keep missing facts unknown. Do not send, publish, order or change another service.
02

Use your own input

For your own version, open a new chat. Paste the prompt below after replacing every bracketed field. Replace related IDs, quantities, dates, rules and limits together; none of the practice facts carries over. Expect the same named deliverable using your source. Review it yourself: recalculate the unit price, rounded-up sale-unit count, total cost and excess from your new quantities; confirm any recommendation passes every new limit. If a check fails, paste: “This part is wrong: [quote it]. My source says: [quote the exact line]. Return the complete corrected result and explain the change.” Recheck before saving; if the source itself is incomplete, keep that part unresolved.

Your starting prompt
Compare each of my supplied product offers separately. Normalize to the same stated unit, calculate the minimum whole sale units needed, total quantity, excess and full cost, and test every budget and bundle condition. Do not mix baskets unless I explicitly allow it. Show the arithmetic and hold missing fees or incompatible units.

MY INPUT
Product names and comparable units: [replace with your own complete non-sensitive details, or state unknown]
Pack sizes and full prices: [replace with your own complete non-sensitive details, or state unknown]
Required amount: [replace with your own complete non-sensitive details, or state unknown]
Bundle conditions and maximum spend: [replace with your own complete non-sensitive details, or state unknown]

Use only MY INPUT for facts and constraints. Ask for an essential missing fact or conflicting rule before deciding; do not import practice-example names or numbers. Return the complete result plus unresolved questions and a source-based check list. Do not send, publish, buy, schedule or change another service.
Optional: improve the result

Find the next quantity boundary

See exactly when the currently fitting offer stops fitting. This optional extension uses only the synthetic example. Return to the sample chat, or paste its full Input into a new chat first. Do not transfer the changed sample values to your own input.

Advanced prompt
For the synthetic offers, keep the GBP 6.00 budget. Find the greatest number of sheets that can be supplied by any single offer within that budget, allowing whole sale units only. Explain why a requirement of one more sheet fails. Do not buy anything.
Show, then try

See the shape of the result.

This input is synthetic. The output is a written illustration of the intended result, not a verified AI-tool run.

The starting point

Synthetic input
Synthetic practice input. All names, products, records and policies below are invented.

Compare three fictional offers for identical sketch paper. Need at least 90 sheets; maximum spend GBP 6.00. Compare each offer separately, with no mixed baskets.
A: one 40-sheet pack costs GBP 2.40.
B: one 100-sheet pack costs GBP 5.50.
C: a bundle of two 30-sheet pads costs GBP 3.90; bundles cannot be split.
All prices include every charge. No coupons or quantity discounts. Excess sheets can be kept, but are not needed for this task.

Copies text only. For image or file tasks, use the source files named in the steps too.

The intended result

Illustrative output
Illustrative answer authored for this guide; not a recorded AI response.

A: GBP 2.40 / 40 = GBP 0.06 per sheet (6p). Need 3 packs because 2 packs give only 80 sheets. Receive 120 sheets; pay GBP 7.20; 30 excess. Quantity fits; budget fails by GBP 1.20.
B: GBP 5.50 / 100 = GBP 0.055 per sheet (5.5p). Need 1 pack. Receive 100 sheets; pay GBP 5.50; 10 excess. Both limits fit; GBP 0.50 remains.
C: each sale unit contains 2 × 30 = 60 sheets. GBP 3.90 / 60 = GBP 0.065 per sheet (6.5p). Need 2 bundles, containing 4 pads and 120 sheets. Pay GBP 7.80; 30 excess. Quantity fits; budget fails by GBP 1.80.
Only B fits both supplied limits. A is cheaper per sheet than C, but neither supplies 90 sheets within the budget. This is a comparison, not a purchase.

You’re the final check

Check the worked example.

These checks use the worked example and its particular facts. With your own material, check your actual names, numbers, sources and rules; do not reuse the sample’s values as the answer.

Unsaved checks stay in this tab and reset when you reload. If you choose Save guide, its current example checkmarks are kept in this browser when storage is available.

A few things to watch for.

  • A lower unit price does not by itself establish the lowest affordable basket. Round pack counts up before calculating spend.
  • Use the full sale unit for bundles; compare the same quality and measurement basis. Hold unknown taxes or fees instead of treating them as zero.
